ESSEC Appointments: TBWA, Orange, Americanas… and More

Advertising, telecoms, SEO, retail... ESSEC alumni are occupying senior international management positions in every sector! Here’s an eclectic selection of recent appointments from within the ESSEC network.

Nicolas Bordas (E82) was appointed executive chairman of the board of directors at TBWA\Corporate. Hitherto vice-president international at TBWA\Worldwide, his role will now focus on consolidating the agency’s key accounts (Google, Netflix, EDF, Système U, CNIEL, McDonald’s, BNP Paribas, Eiffage, etc.) and developing influence communications, a rapidly growing sector. He has been working for TBWA for the past 20 years, after founding his own agency, BDDP & Fils, and has also served as executive vice-president of CLM BBDO. He cut his teeth at Saatchi & Saatchi.

Véronique McCarroll (E85) was appointed executive vice-president of finance and auditing at Orange Bank, thereby becoming one of the subsidiary’s three effective directors. She began her career at Banque Indosuez before joining, in order, the financial institutions of Andersen, EY, Oliver Wyman, and McKinsey. She then went on to sit on the executive committee at Crédit Agricole CIB. She has worked at Orange as the Head of Strategy, Innovation & Partnerships, Mobile Finance Europe since 2018.  

Ghislain Le Chatelier (E98) was appointed President Asia-Pacific at Botify, the SaaS platform that helps companies harness the power of their SEO data. It was the logical next step following his recent appointment at Fast Track Asia, an investment and acceleration venture that helps European scale-ups launch in Asia – as well as being a new direction after 14 years at Google, split between Europe and Asia.

Loïc Danel (E05) was appointed managing director at Biotopia Insights, a company that sells data and analysis on consumer behaviour around organic products, and the performance of players in the organic market. It is a role that draws on both his experience as a consultant for companies that “want to change the world”, and as the academic manager for ESSEC’s Mass Consumerism Chair, following a first act in his career spent in a variety of marketing roles at major groups like Sony and Renault, followed by a dozen years at Nielsen.

Sergio Barbosa (E05) was appointed executive director of strategy at Americanas Group, the Brazilian leader in retail (Lojas Americanas) and e-commerce (B2W). Prior to this, he spent 13 years as an M&A and restructuring consultant at Lazard, in their Paris and São Paulo offices, before joining Ivanhoé Cambridge, the real estate subsidiary of the Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec, as director of investment in Latin America.

Matthias Baccino (E10) was appointed director of France at Trade Republic, the German fintech company that makes a mobile app to bring trading to the masses. He previously served as Country Manager France at Binck, after training at BNP Paribas and PwC. He also serves as chairman of the board at the Concorde Foundation, a civil society think tank whose aim is “to make France the most prosperous country in Europe”, and was listed in the Choiseul 200 business leader rankings in 2020.
