Martinique Club: "The Region is Home to a Wide Diversity of Profiles and Cultures"

Around 200 alumni are based in Martinique. Thierry Cyrille (EXEC M15), administrator of ESSEC Alumni’s Martinique Club, tells us how his team rallies and drives this network.

ESSEC Alumni: What are the profiles of ESSEC alumni in Martinique?

Thierry Cyrille: Most of them are executives, company managers and owners. They work mainly in tourism (aviation, travel agencies), telecommunications, insurance, banking, or with local authorities and public institutions, in addition to the fields of management, finance, auditing, accounting and communication.

EA: What opportunities does Martinique hold for alumni?

T. Cyrille: There are numerous jobs to be found in mass retail, tourism, agriculture and fishing. Some major multi-activity groups such as GBH (automotive, diverse industries, etc.) offer jobs in all French overseas territories. In the West Indies specifically, companies and local authorities can provide aid (Alé Viré scheme) to facilitate the return of students and families.

EA: Apart from the economic aspects, what else does Martinique have to offer?

T. Cyrille: The climate, without question, and its location in the Caribbean archipelago, close to numerous islands and thus to a wide cultural diversity and a multitude of languages.

EA: What actions does Club Martinique Club lead?

T. Cyrille: We organise leisure and cultural excursions, as well as conferences and debates on topical themes. We’re also planning to broaden this offer with afterwork events, webinars, meetings with economic players or joint events with other ESSEC Alumni clubs. We have our own page on the ESSEC Alumni website and a LinkedIn group. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have queries, or would like some advice, especially if you are thinking of moving to the region.

EA: Who are the members of your team?

T. Cyrille: I’m lucky to have four people at my side: Thierry Joachim (EXEC M14), the Club’s former administrator, Marie Julan (EXEC M14), Manuel Laudarin (EXEC M15) and Célia Thegat (EXEC M12). There is no strict structure, everyone contributes. We would be delighted to welcome more volunteers, to help us organise events and find funding in particular. A word to the wise!
