"My face still bore the marks of Scar’s punches, and I knew I couldn’t return to work the next day. I needed a medical certificate to file a police report – it seemed the right thing to do. Once I explained my situation to the doctor I met, he told me with a kind but serious expression […] that in his experience, a legal complaint often only benefited the one with more influence, deeper pockets, and stronger connections. And from what he could tell, that wasn’t my case. He suggested three options: 1) accepting to stay and endure this life, hoping that future instances of domestic violence would be rare and less dramatic, 2) leaving immediately, or 3) planning a careful departure for a smoother transition. That night, in the emergency room, I broke down in tears. No one was going to save me."

This book is the first installment of the author's true story. An account of faith and resilience that starts with her surreal escape from an abusive relationship in Abidjan, leading to the start of a new life and career abroad.

"Find out how I transformed from a young and naive victim of a controlling relationship into a resourceful woman who escaped her abuser; how I managed to be - secretly - admitted to ESSEC; how it took miraculous moments to lit the path to my liberation and empowerment; how I dealt with the emotional rollercoaster of my journey; which lessons I drew from the whole experience; and how this ordeal contributed to make me a coach, an inspirational speaker, and a specialist in leadership development who even took part in the Obama Foundation Leaders Africa program."
