The ESSEC Foundation held its annual ceremony at the Catholic University of Paris. The ceremony celebrated two key areas of its action, equal opportunity and academic excellence, with the awarding of several prizes and scholarships.

The Excellence Teaching Prizes Awarded to Arthur Gautier and Dragoslav Ljubic

These prizes reflect the preferences of some 2000 ESSEC Group students and participants.

Arthur Gautier was awarded the prize in the “Tenured Professor” category. He is an Assistant Professor in the Corporate Law and Environment department, Executive Director of the Philanthropy Chair and academic head of the Certificat Français du Fundraising [French Certificate in Fundraising]. “This is a very meaningful sign of recognition for me, because it comes from our students, whose education and well-being are, in my view, the priority strategy of any higher education institution. This award is all the more significant given the exceptional context we have been experiencing in the last two years.”

Dragoslav Ljubic was awarded the prize in the “Lecturer” category.

The Jury’s Special Prize Goes to Junko Takagi

Systematically nominated from the list of students’ 10 favourite teachers in the last 5 years, the jury chose to award Junko Takagi for her course assessments in a variety of programmes and his commitment to the institution.

Research Prizes

The Research Prizes were awarded to two winners: Harris Kyriakou for the paper “The Role of Artificial Intelligence and Data Network Effects for Creating User Value”, published in the Academy of Management Review (2021) and co-written with Robert Wayne Gregory, Ola Henfridsson and Evgeny Kaganer; and Ioana Lupu for the paper “Feeling in Control: Optimal Busyness and the Temporality of Organizational Controls” published in Organization Science (2021), and co-written with Joonas Rokka.

The PhD Prize was awarded to Yanlu Zhao (PhD 20) for his thesis completed under the supervision of Félix Papier and Laurent Alfandari (E93).

Lastly, the Daniel Tixier Teaching Experience Prize was awarded to Anastasios Dosis for “Teaching Managerial Economics”.

The ESSEC Capitaine Chomel de Jarnieu Prize Goes to ESSEC Sailing Club

Created in tribute to Romain Chomel de Jarnieu (E08), who was killed in action in Mali in 2019, this prize awards a project led by an ESSEC student (or students) within a club or organisation with a humanitarian commitment.

This year, the prize was awarded to the ESSEC Sailing Club for its Univer’sail project: “A day’s sailing with disabled young people who have little opportunity for a sea trip, to share our passion with them and raise awareness of their situation among the ESSEC community.” A meaningful action which highlights the club’s values: solidarity, freedom, authenticity and human adventure!

Two other student clubs were in the running for this prize: Mission Potosi for its Yes We Cancha! initiative aimed at creating a playground in the Pailaviri refugee centre in Potosi, Bolivia, and Raid ESSEC for its sports and academic support project for a young disabled person.

Social Scholarships for 329 Students

During the ceremony, the ESSEC Foundation social scholarships were awarded to 329 ESSEC Group students for a total endowment of €859,000.

The scholarships represent a reduction in tuition fees, attributed by ESSEC to a student on a grant from the CROUS (Regional Centre for University and School Support). The scholarships are geared towards students under 28, with limited personal funds and enrolled in the Grande École or Global BBA programmes.

Grants vary from €1,400 to €15,200, according to the student’s CROUS rating, which takes three criteria into account: family income, distance from place of study and the number of dependent children in the fiscal family.

Please note that needs are rising due to the consequences of the health crisis. The 2022 budget currently stands at €1.1M. Make a donation!
