ESSEC Alumni’s Game Industry Club boasts some 800 graduates and students interested in the video game sector. The Club’s voluntary leaders François Courset (E18), Marcus Pierrat (BBA 20) and Daniel Nghe (E17) present its activities and invite you to become a member of their online groups on our website and on Facebook

ESSEC Alumni: Who is your club geared towards?

Daniel Nghe: We’re open to any alumni interested in video games, whether they’re players, designers, entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, journalists or simply curious to discover this booming sector.

EA: What role does the ESSEC community play in this sector?

Marcus Pierrat: There are numerous ESSEC alumni in the sector, often simply in the strategic, managerial, financial, marketing or legal roles our training naturally leads to. We saw this in Reflets Mag #149 (in French), which features an article on three classmates in e-sport, including Nicolo Laurent (E06), former CEO of Riot Games, publisher of the iconic League of Legends. This specific foothold is probably strengthened by the fact that the School includes digital technology among the 3 pillars of its RISE strategy, notably with the creation of the ESSEC Metalab and the more recent opening of a Gaming Lab on the Cergy campus.

EA: What actions does your club conduct?

François Courset: We organise networking events throughout the year in the form of after-works or meetings with video game professionals. We’re also planning to hold conferences, round tables, workshops and studio tours with high-profile speakers and in partnership with other ESSEC ecosystem players, such as the Media & Digital Chair and the student Games Office on the Cergy campus.

EA: What other projects are you working on?

D. Nghe: We’d like to create a directory of alumni in the video game sector to facilitate contacts and career opportunities, and set up tailor-made support for students and graduates wishing to venture or transition into this sector.

EA: How can the ESSEC community get involved?

M. Pierrat: Above all, join our online groups on the ESSEC Alumni website and on Facebook to follow our news and meet peers. If you already work in the sector, don’t hesitate to share your expertise, in particular during our events, or offer your advice to less experienced members.

EA: Who are the members of your team?

F. Courset: Daniel and I are among the club’s founding members, alongside Laurine Deschamps (BBA 18) and Charles Diruit (E16). Marcus has since joined us, as well as Alexandre Breg (E23), Reda Messaoudi (E21) and Thomas Oppenheim (BBA 19).
